Over the last six decades, the Chicago (IL) Chapter Cotillion has become one of the most prestigious social events in the city. It is a time-honored tradition that honors the positive academic accomplishments and extracurricular achievements of young, African American Women in the Chicagoland area.

A highlight of the debutante experience is a strong mentoring relationship between the debutantes and Links chapter members. Special activities in which the debutantes have engaged include philanthropy seminars, college readiness workshops, mental health and wellness workshops, social justice speaker series and community service.

In preparation for the Cotillion, the lucky debutantes and their escorts participate in dance rehearsals where they learn traditional and contemporary dance movements, attend informational workshops and activities and perform community service.

Unlike the traditional debutante cotillion of the 1950’s and 60’s, which were “coming-out” parties for the social elite, the members of the Chicago (IL) Chapter have always instilled in their “Debs” a sense of service to the community. Since the Cotillion’s inception, the debutantes have participated in volunteer service projects. More recently, escorts have joined them in this worthwhile activity.

The success of the Annual Debutante Cotillion has allowed the Chicago (IL) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated to contribute over $1,000,000 to many local and national organizations including the Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center, National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI), YWCA, Mercy Homes, and Mother’s Against Senseless Killing (MASK). Still regarded as one of the most elegant and graceful events of its kind, the Chicago (IL) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated’s, Annual Debutante Cotillion has become a Chicago cultural and social tradition.
